The first Neurology Center, Guntur in private practice was started by Dr.P.Vijaya MD.,DM (Neurology) as part of Heart & Brain center, Lalitha Super Specialities Hospital in November 1990 offering Neuro ICU & Wards with EEG/EMG/NCV. The first Stroke Unit is started in the same center in the year 1996 with 5 beds. Later it is developed into comprehensive state-of-art “Ankineedu Stroke center” with 24/7 inhouse CT scan, MRI scan, Stroke Action Team services for acute paralysis patients as well as complete solution for stroke patients including rehabilitation.

The first IV thrombolysis in Andhra Pradesh done in this centre during Nov 2004. This centre is pioneered in Neuro interventions in 2005 with intra arterial thrombolysis, Intra and Extra cranial angioplasties and stenting in acute stroke pts. From then, more than 450 pts received interventional stroke therapies, one of the largest data in India.

1. Achieved the prestigious “The Gold Winner of the World Stroke Day” Award 2010 by World Stroke Organization standing 1st place from 84 Worldwide entries.
2. This center is one of the 12 in India selected for a European Stroke registry (SITS-NEW).
